Slaidburn Steam and Vintage Vehicle Display

www.slaidburnsteam.co.uk

The Slaidburn Steam & Vintage Vehicle Display first started in 1980, when David McNamee parked his Steam roller outside the Hark to Bounty. The following year, a fellow steam enthusiast brought his traction engine to Slaidburn. The event is firmly established on the 'Steam Rally Calendar' and takes place most years at the Hark to Bounty. Steam engine numbers have increased to six or seven. Vintage tractors have also increased as well as cars and motorbikes. At the front of the pub, you can nearly always guarantee to see a fairground organ. Since the rally started, nearly £40,000 has been raised for village causes. The village bowling green was reinstated with proceeds from the rally, and school, church and the local playgroup have benefited. Nearly a £1000 was given some years ago when the village cenotaph was restored and a similar amount has been raised towards the village hall.

David McNamee still runs the event calling on an enthusiastic band of volunteers. Please ring him on 01200 446605 for information.
